The man accused of hijacking an Egyptian plane and diverting it to Cyprus did not enter the cockpit during the six-hour long ordeal, the pilot of the aircraft said Sunday.

A judge in Larnaca on the island's southern coast ordered Egyptian Seif al-Din Mohamed Mostafa held for eight days during his first court appearance after Tuesday's hijacking.

Seif al-Din Mohamed Mostafa, a 58-year-old Egyptian who has a Cypriot ex-wife, was not asked to address the court.
